Become a Psychologist

In the Child & Family Psychology concentration, students, through a combination of education and training, can develop competencies in the diagnosis, assessment and intervention with families, couples, adolescents and children. Upon completing this concentration, graduates will be able to conceptualize and diagnose major psychological disorders of childhood that are affected by biopsychosocial and cultural factors. Courses are designed to teach to students to apply a developmental and life cycle perspective and a systems approach to intervention with these populations and to understand how contextual issues affect children, families and couples. Coursework covers a range of topics including play therapy, couples therapy, evidence-based marital treatment, and special diagnostic areas such as the treatment of juvenile offenders as well as anxiety and depression in children.

Clinical Health Psychology

The concentration in Clinical Health Psychology enables students to develop competency in the area of Health Psychology, including such areas as pain assessment and treatment, eating disorders and self-injury, coordination with primary care, clinical hypnosis, and rehabilitation psychology. Our faculty members have extensive clinical experience, scholarly publications, and specialized training in the area of clinical health psychology. The concentration in Clinical Health Psychology positions our graduates to further contribute to this growing area of clinical psychology and health care.
